End Realm by Tyler J. Welch

Fans of mythology will enjoy this thrilling tale of adventure and horror. Brace yourself as you follow the harrowing journey of a desperate man hell-bent on escaping the afterlife.

End Realm is Tyler J. Welch’s debut dark fiction, horror novel. It weighs in at 232 pages and releases on October 31, 2024 from Asphodel Press.

In a world where the dead live for centuries, this story takes place in the mere blink of an eye. Welch takes readers on an adventure into the depths of hell, introducing terrors and gods along a hero’s journey to discover himself and the elusive past he left behind when he died.

Mixed with mythology and fantastical elements, the story begins with a man who finds himself in a peculiar predicament. When he comes to, in a bleak and desolate landscape, he soon discovers he’s been delivered to the afterlife. The only problem is, he doesn’t remember who he is. Carrying a mysterious ring, a dagger, and precious coins, he ventures on a dangerous trek to figure out his true identity and why he’s been sentenced to the End Realm as his final destination—the Lowest: the worst prison in his new hellish existence.

One of my favorite parts of End Realm is the cast of characters. Welch does a wonderful job fleshing out mythical beings who will send chills down your spine. There are numerous gods as well as despicable, evil creatures roaming through the pages. I love Chronos and Karhon/The Maw—any time you put me in a boat on the River Styx, I’m all in. I’ve been a fan since I was a kid watching the original Clash of the Titans film. There are familiar and new faces alike. I think readers will enjoy them all.

Welch has a fun and unique take on the stories from mythology, creating his own version of hell. He stays in the lines in some respects, but I enjoyed the way he created an afterlife that still had stakes and characters fearing death.

Even in the afterlife, no one is safe.

End Realm is a creative mixture of horror and mythology, and it was highly entertaining. Kudos to Welch for writing such an intriguing debut novel. I can’t wait to see what else he has in store for us!
