Shrouded Horror: Tales of the Uncanny by KC Grifant

Shrouded Horror: Tales of the Uncanny is a collection of twenty short horror stories by KC Grifant. It released on July 11, 2024 by Dragon’s Roost Press and weighs in at 198 pages.

First off—that cover! Absolutely gorgeous. I first saw it on teaser merch at StokerCon 2024 in San Diego. I knew then that I needed to grab a copy when it became available. As an avid creature feature fan, I couldn’t wait to dig in and see what Grifant had to offer.

My creature-loving, Twilight Zone heart was so happy when I finished reading this collection. Each story was well-written. They were all scary in a variety of ways, yet they also pulled at my emotions. I could actually feel the pain and fear of the characters.

I found it fascinating how Grifant took heavy concepts like serial killers and suicide and shone a new light on them. Again, the thoughts and feelings of the victims moved me and kept me enticed the entire time. I also love a revenge story, so I was quite happy when some stories took that turn.

Shrouded Horror gave me everything I was promised in the trailers and blurbs. From everyday locations all the way to outer space, Grifant delivered true terror in a variety of genres. There’s a great mix of tales, from cosmic horror to just plain weird to fantastical. Definitely something for everyone.

I very much enjoyed each story! Every one offers a thrill and packs a punch. When I was reading through my notes, I struggled to be able to list my favorites. The list was too long! I made myself go back through and only pick five stories. It was quite difficult! I hope you will read this collection and then share your favorites with me.

“The curiosity almost kills you as much as the fear itself.”
